How? How? How?
how #1:
my offer letter for honours!
i still hvn't got it altho they said it'll be sent to me by christmas.
i emailed my supervisor to ask abt that yday but he's on christmas leave till early jan (i got an autoreply email), so might not be able to read that email.
coz i need that letter and the following documents and procedures to apply for next yr's student visa. or else, i dunno if i'll hv any prob with my plans of coming back to melb in early jan.
my current student visa expires mid march next yr, so should be able to enter aus again early jan, but then dunno if i'm allowed to buy a 1 year open return tix.
how #2:
well, i'm goin home on thurs... so less than 4 days left ... need to pack lar, clean/tidy up the apartment a bit lar, catch up with some frens before i go back lar, and luckily not much shopping to do coz already done that when parents were here.
hv time or not?!
how #3:
i still hv a bit of 遗憾 with my graduation photos. the studio photos, to be exact.
sorry guys... being 'long gas' (means keep repeating the same thing) here but... really lor...
until now, on and off, i still go to my photo folders and look at those photos :P
that's why i was kept reminded abt that 'hood incident'
oh and.. .anyone who's still in melb wants to watch movie, Borat? :P

My Graduation Day
the excitement started when a lady called me yday 6 something in the evening, asking me how to pronounce my name. it's hard for her to get the middle word 'sze' but wat she could pronounce is close enough :P but anyway, today when they call out my name, it's diffr from yday
this morning i still went to work for 1.5 hours. need to check out the flies lar and luckily i went coz i managed to do a cross today! :)
when i was half way checking for any virgin female flies, i suddenly remember that i hvn't charge my camera!!! so i called home to ask my mum to do it for me.
and then the excitement increased when i was abt to leave work, i told ppl in the fly lab at that time that i'm going off to hv my graduation in the afternoon. and they said to me like... 'enjoy ur graduation!' bla bla bla. and my supervisor said that too before i left.
seeing my parents dressing up for my 'big day' make me feel really happy :)
coz they usually wont dress up mar,
dad was wearing a long sleeve shirt (bro bought for him, he told me) and mum wore a red blouse and white pants :)
then in the lift, dad was 'practising' his smile. haha! and we think his smile looks a bit funny :)
arrived in union hs at 12.45pm. went up to 2nd floor, queue up for the regalia. there were not more than 5 ppl there when i first arrived. then met a fren who did science so we were chatting while queueing up
after putting on the gown and the hood, picked up the tix for our guests.
went down to ground floor, met SuangSuang, then Hari and Jason.
after that me and my parents went to take those studio photos.
then saw HweeNgee, then LeeXin and KengSeng (thnx for the flowers!)
After the photos, TzeChien, HweeNgee, and Jeanette also came along. so we all went outside union hs to take photos. luckily it wasn't as hot as it was in the mid-day. :)
we went to the 'old harry-potter-like corridor' took a few photos there, then Charlotte came too. she's another biomed ppl who's graduating today. and i met Jill (a good teacher in my sem2 Experimental Genetics project) who walked pass us, so drag her for photo too of coz :)
then saw dad's fren, his son graduating today too. photo photo...
that old building near south lawn is really nice for photos!!
then Benson came, met WingYan too (another biomed ppl graduating today, altogether there's us 3 girls and another guy whom i dunno)
then SamSam and Elaine came (thnx for the flowers and the bearbear!! it's sharing my bed with me tonite :P)
then we went to Genetics building to take photo with the word 'genetics' plus the melb uni logo
while we're on the way back to Wilson Hall at 3pm, met Jocelyn (graduating today as Bach. in Optom.) and then Alvin came too.
the ceremony in Wilson Hall wasn't that boring. i was sitting next to Charlotte and another biomed guy (whom i dunno). i was a bit hungry but luckily my stomach behaved well :)
before we 'went up the stage to shake hand with the Chancellor, receive our cert, then nod with the Dean, come down from the stage', a mother-ly lady was there 'tidy-ing up' our look. from hats (for those masters ppl), ties (for guys), to the gown and hood.
and when it's my turn, i only realise that my hood is 'inside-out' all the time!!!!!!
which means my studio photos are stuffed up! >.<
blame the guy in 2nd floor union hs who helped me wear the hood!!!!! :(
the ceremony started at 3.30pm, finished at 5.15pm
each of us got our cert plus a melb uni logo pin. :)
after it finished, the Chancellor, Deans and all those 'big ppl' left the hall first, walking down the middle aisle, followed by us graduates when all the guests had to stand up. felt so proud!! :D but too bad when a fren tried to take photo of me walking down the middle aisle, i was coughing, so couldnt see my face clearly :(
then, outside Wilson Hall was crowded with ppl, all looking for our own parents, frens...
JeePing was outside the hall waiting for me
and saw KahWai too
after we found my parents (camera is with them), took photos with JeePing,
while still waiting to take photo with KahWai n JingYi (thnx for the melb uni koala) (and their fren joined in too), took a few photos with my cert :P
before returning the gown at 6pm, Alfred came just on time (thnx for the flowers).
after taking a few more photos, of myself also, returned the gown at 2nd floor.
met Fabian there. he graduated today too.
went home, put down the stuff, went out for dinner with my parents and my dad's fren and his son's hsmate+family
it was raining not too heavily.
after the dinner, i was soo soo sleepy. i can hardly open both of my eyes at the same time when i came home >.<
spent like 20mins (or more?) to fix up the flowers... put them into jars, bottles...
so now, my whole living room smells like flowers :P
i hv one 'jar' of flowers on the dining table, the other 'jar' in the toilet (no offence to the flowers wat so ever)
after shower, uploaded the photos looo... and to msn space too :P
time to sleep now.. :)
once again, thnx everyone for coming!!! i had a great day today :)
to be honest, i was worried if noone ever turned up! :$

First day of summer studentship
woke up at 7.30am, reached there at abt 8.50am. still early so kind of walked around on the ground floor, found the cafeteria and a gift shop there :P
so went up to 2nd floor, ask at reception for the HR ppl who's suppose to bring me to get my swipe card, but she's not here yet (and turned out to be... she's not there the whole day today). and my supervisor wasn't there yet too.
almost 9.10, supervisor came (rupa-rupanya he had to drop his daughter at the day-care centre, that's why he's a bit late), brought me to meet ppl in the lab then explain to me things related to wat i'll be doing. then gave me the ppr he and another guy in the lab just published. so i spent my time before lunch time (i had my lunch ALONE at 12.30 :() reading pprs, including those photocopied from another summer student in the lab.
there are another 2 guys in the lab (not sure if they are postdocs or PhD students)
lunch time was a bit of an adventure. :P
i had to borrow the swipe card from my supervisor since i hvn't got one for myself.
went up to 3rd floor (where the tea room is) through the stairs (wow.. thought i'm able to get there myself coz the lab manager showed me around during orientation few weeks ago) but i couldn't find the tea room on 3rd floor!
so i went down to ground floor with the lift, thinking that i'll just hv my lunch at the cafeteria (since i've found where it is this morning) but there're many ppl there and i'm hving my own sandwiches (yup.. mum prepared them this morning! while i put the bread and the stuff altogether :) long time never had mum making lunch box and breakfast for me!!)
so, i went all up to 3rd floor (again) with the lift. then saw someone walking pass, i asked the lady where's the tearoom but she had no idea and asked me to go ask 3rd floor reception.
so when i was heading to the receptionist, i saw the familiar corridor! the corridor to the tea room! muahaha! so happy i was. but still, i had lunch with the newspaper that i was reading. there are ppl there in the tearoom but i dunno any of them. so....
Christina!! can't wait to hv lunch with u at petermac in jan!! haha! (too bad u're not reading this)
so around 1.30pm, he showed me the flies that i'll be working on and taught me how to differentiate virgin females from the normal ones coz for the rest of the day and will cont tmr, i'll be doing that under the microscope >.<
5pm!! can't wait till it's 5pm!! well, i finished a bit late ~5.10pm coz had to finish up wat i was doing mar. can't just leave like that.
so happy i'm home. mum cooked dinner :)
wonder how it's goin to be in Jan when mum's not around :( aww....
well, it's only 10.37pm now but i really want to go to bed. need to wake up at 7.30am tmr again.
really looking fwd to thursday!! coz of 2 reasons: my grad ceremony, and i'll be off from work! muahaha!
it's at 3.30pm but hopefully ppl turn out so that i can take photos with.
for those whom i know, only me, wingyan, charlotte and a son of my dad's fren are graduating on that day. :(
and you guys who are reading this, mostly are those not in melb. too bad... :(
not hving high hope that many of my biomed frens will turn up lor. they are either working, or just dunno how lar.

Kiwiland Adventure 25 Nov - 5th Dec
mum, dad, eldest bro, me
car driver - dad and bro
navigator - me!
photographer - bro and me (most photos i took with my camear are on msn space)
cook (in some days) - mum, with some little help from me and bro
25th Nov - Melb:Christchurch
woke up at 4.30am,
5.55am, skybus to airport
had my breakfast at the airport
8.40am jetstar, after we board the plane, delayed 50mins! i took a nap and when i woke up, still find myself in the plane still on the ground. -_-
slept in the plane, hv some chat with the lady sitting next to me (she's on the plane with her husband and their cute 9-months old son), and ate a whole packet of timtam balls (bought that from a duty free shop when i was reminded by another passenger that there're no food served on the plane unless u pay for it)
that flight was not very stable... bad landing too! jetstar... aih...
2.30pm reach Christchurch
the first thing i saw from the plane after we touched down = sheep!! haha
mum, dad and bro already arrived at Chch from Syd.
bro's frens took us for early dinner in the city. we had some western food. and water here taste good! :P
then they brought us around the city, botanical garden, cathedral square, mona vale (a nice rose garden), then went buy stuff from a 24hrs supermarket (Countdown)
u know wat: the tallest building in Chch city is their police station, not very tall after all (sorry... din take photo of that :P but turst me, no more taller than where i stay in melb)
26th Nov - Christchurch:Hanmer Springs
rain
quite cold leh... i had to wear my winter jacket i wore in melb
picked up rented car at 9.30am
bought a vodafone prepaid card
went to Hanmer Springs (1.5-2hr drive from city), famous for their open air thermal pools and sulphur pools (those sulphur pools really stinks! smells like rotten eggs)
we only went in for a walk, bro 'accidentally' found the way through the back gate, so we entered without paying few dollars each
had lunch at Hanmer Springs
on our way back to the city, went to New Brighton (it's a beach side area), saw rainbow there :P
went to woolworth (the supermarket that we call safeway in melb)
went to casino in Chch, Bridge of Remembrance
27th Nov - Chch:Lyttleton:Arthur's Pass:Greymouth
(still) rain
check out from the motel
Scenic drive to Lyttleton, a small historic town/ harbour
~12pm set off to Greymouth
abt 4 hours drive
through Arthur's Pass, fantastic scenery, moutains, snowy mountains, rivers, sheeps. and it snowed! :)
checked into our accomodation - a holiday park near the seaside (the whole Greymouth is by the sea anyway)
drove up to Greymouth lookout, seaside
bought this ice cream - hokey pokey flavour, it's like... milky smooth vanilla with honey crystals ball (a bit smaller than those pearls in bubble tea)
that flavour is only available in NZ
28th Nov - Greymouth:Hokitika:Franz Joseph:Fox Glacier
rain (again)
cold!!
we actually booked for a half-day glacier hiking at Franz Joseph Glacier. but after found out that Fox Glacier is less physically challenging, we changed our mind and cancelled that one. so we went on a half-day glacier hiking (~1.45 - 6pm) at Fox Glacier! 4 of us joined the guided hiking. met LeeYen, SinNeng and their frens there! they also went on holiday in NZ, also joining the glacier hiking. we ended up in the same team. abt 17 ppl in one team. they supplied us all the equipment, boots, rain jackets, rain pants, and crampons (things that u put around/under ur boots so that u can walk on ice)
when we are 45mins from the glacier, mum couldn't tahan, she's afraid of heights and physically not fit enough too. so dad and mum turned back down to the car park:(
before reaching the glacier, we had to walk through the trees, waterfall, slopes... although they're well pathed, but it's actually quite dangerous if u're not careful
when we reach the glacier.. walau!! so cool! it is cold there, my ears went numb so i had to put on my beanie. we were really stepping on ice (glacier)! and each of us had a walking stick too. it rained on and off throughout the journey.
so so so tiring man!! esp my leg. and my heel hurts coz of the boots. but it's worth the all the sweat. :)
checked into our Franz Joseph YHA, it's a really nice place to stay. shared kitchen and dining hall with others
during dinner time, everyone came to the kitchen to cook, u can see all the diffr food ppl cook :P quite fun
29th Nov - Franz Joseph:Haast:Wanaka:Queenstown
Rain (and again)
max temperature is less than 13C i think.
Haast: nothing much, jungle treking
stopped to see waterfall while we're on our way to Queenstown
before we reach Wanaka, our car nearly break down coz ran out of petrol!! the warning signal came out 3 times already
so when we saw petrol station at Wanaka (a small town), it's like seeing gold! phew...
had Subway at Wanaka hehe... Subway there are slightly diffr from those in Melb, some diffr 'flavour' and diffr dressing too. and the guy making our bread was so patient... slowly and neatly 'put and arrange' all the fillings on the bread nicely, unlike those in melb, 'rushing and stuffing' everything in only.
then went to Wanaka Puzzle World :) spent one hour there. really fun! althought it's small, that's why mum and dad doesn't want to go in coz they think it's not worth the money (altho it's $7 per entry). so me and my bro went in while our parents were 'outside' playing those puzzles blocks.
first there's Hologram Hall, with all the 3D Hologram photos
then the Hall of Following faces,
The Ames Illusion room - where Giants & Dwafts are created!
The Tilted House - water flowing uphill, monorail go from floor to ceiling... that room really make u dizzy! coz the floor is actually not horizontal on 'normal water level' but the things inside are on the 'normal water level' erm... dunno how to explain but we took a few videos with my camera. for photos, see my msn space lar. :P
we didn't go to the maze as it's raining out there
and the toilet... the toilet bowls are so beautiful haha! (again, see my msn space lar)
reach Queenstown late evening, it's a really nice beautiful place.
the houses (mostly are accomodation for tourists lar) are so beautiful!
it's the next biggest city we came to after Chch.
we had pizza at Pizza hut. we ordered 1 large pizza + garlic bread for $16, but we ended up hving 2 large pizzas + chicken wings! coz we still din get our garlic bread after we finished that pizza, so i asked the waitress and she said we can hv any pizza instead. so she gave us another large pizza and chicken wings for no extra charge! coz it's almost 9pm, so they want to clear their food gua.
we stayed at an Alpine hotel, which is like 15 mins drive from Queenstown 'city' :( bit dissapointed with the location of the accomodation coz queenstown 'city' is still busy at night and we could hv hand around in the city if we're stayin in the city. coz it's not very safe to drive from the city to where we stay at nite. no lights all the way and we had to cross 1 (or 2?) single-lane bridge.
30th Nov - Queenstown:Arrowtown:Queenstown
cold! raining too!
Arrowtown, abt 30 mins drive from Queenstown. a beautiful small town, with a historic chinese settlement there.
met Leeyen and her frens back in the city. they went for bungy jumping!! wow! !
had Thai food for lunch, Indian food for dinner
1st Dec - Queenstown:Te Anau:Milford Sound
sunny :) but still it's cold
on our way from Queenstown to Te Anau, along the road are sheeps, sheeps and sheeps. haha! oh and snowy mountains too
had lunch in Te Anau, a small place with a glow worm cave (which we didn't go)
then from there to Milford Sound, which we'll be staying for the night, it's a 2.5 hour drive but it took us 4hr coz of the waterfall, creeks, mirror lakes, Homer Tunnel along the way. :) the water of rivers and lakes in NZ are crystal clear!!
Milford Sound Lodge is the only accomodation for us there. the other accomodation is only for ppl goin for hiking. :S
there's no electricity in the lodge from 11pm - 6.30am :S
we went to bed before 9pm (and yup the sky was still bright) and woke up before 8am the next day
2nd Dec - Milford Sound:Te Anau
Milford Sound cruise!! was really excited abt that but after the cruise, i found it... not that great afterall.
the ~1.5 hours cruise... wat we saw was those cliff/mountains along the river (which will lead to Tasman Sea)
the most beautiful/ spectacular thing i think was the waterfall. the really huge fall! the water splashing down on the river was so beautiful, the huge white splash.
we stayed at Te Anau YHA for the night. i think it's not as nice as Franz Joseph YHA.
overall, not worth overnight at Te Anau. should have gone straight to Dunedin after the cruise.
went to bed before 10pm
3rd Dec - Te Anau:Gore:Dunedin
on our way to Dunedin (prounouced as 'Dhe-nee-din'), abt 40mins from Dunedin, our car got hit by a small Holden truck
our car was seriously damaged on the front right side, the lamp, indicator lamp smashed (but the indicator was still working), and i can't even open my door (i was sitting next to the driver seat) properly, not even half open.
bro was trying to turn right at the junction to see something (many shoes were hanging on the fence). he likes to take photos
and the other car came from behind us, was trying to overtake us but bro din see it, so.. bang! until now, i can still remember the huge bang soud when it hit us.
that guy called police, his car not as badly damaged: a flat right front tyre and some damage on the left front door.
luckily noone got hurt. but my mum was really traumatised
and luckily we got the car insured when we rented the car.
bro slowly drove the car to Dunedin after the police report (bro got fine NZD150 for that). so ppl watching our car when we passed by... so paiseh man! :$
Dunedin is a nice city. i love it. Apparently there are many students in Dunedin (there's Otago uni there)
the city is less than half the size of melb city.
so happen that there's a Santa Parade that day, 3pm-4pm in the city, George Street
there are only 2 straight, long main roads in the city
so many childrens are out there for the parade, both participating in the parade and watching the parade. those kids are so cute! :P
again, see msn space for pic :)
after dinner, the car rental company changed for us another car.
then we went to visit the Otago Uni, railway station, then Baldwin Road, which is the steepest road in the world (abt thirty degree at the steepest part of the road), Botanical Gardens
4th Dec - Dunedin:Otago Peninsula:Christchurch
9.30am Cadbury factory tour! it lasts for 75 mins, it's more 'tourist-ish yet 'not as many choc for u to have compared to that in Tasmania :P
then to Otago Peninsula, abt 50mins to reach the very end of the peninsula from Dunedin city
in Otago Peninsula, there's Penguin Place (which we din go), Larnach Castle (which we turned back at the guard house), Albatross Colony...
then, we drove back to Christchurch
well, Chch is also a nice city :)
slept at ~10.45pm
5th Dec - Christchurch:Melbourne
woke up at 3.20am, our flight back to melb is at 6.20am
had to pay NZD25 per person for the tax at the airport.
with AirNZ :) hv breakky served on the plane, and more smooth stable flight too. but the air-hostess, they walked like elephant in the plane :P footsteps too heavy or they themselves are too heavy? oops! :D
reach melb at almost 9am melb time.
wow.. relieved to be back in melb altho it's a really hot and stuffy day
missed the cool weather in NZ, and their water too!

1 day left...
tmr is sunday already!! >.<
yer... sometimes very >.< with my mum...
coz she always misunderstood what ppl told her, always dont remember things i said/mentioned, and sometimes her way of handling things
sometimes those things made me really -_-, and >.<**!!!
coz i already expected wat my parents's reactions will be, that's why some stuff (or mayb most stuff) i dont like to tell/share with them. coz i know that they wont agree/understand, so i just dont bother to tell them :( aih...
monday goin to start work already... so 不甘愿 lar me
yday nite, watch korean series alone in my room till this early morning. i wanted to watch more but then when i heard dad and mum woke up and ask why i'm still awake (they were sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room)... i quickly switch off my lights (comp still left on) and go to bed (i'd brushed my teeth hours ago lar!)
things like watching movie series till early morning next day are things that i'm 'not able to' do when i start working or start uni. :(
somemore... next day also nothing to do, no need to wake up early mar... sleep late also nvm wat :(
i guess that's generation gap...
hvn't done my homework for my internship... suppose to read the published papers that my supervisor sent me but i hvn't even print them out.
well, i did try to print them today but found printer ran out of ink. so... tmr lar :P

still waiting...
still hasn't got my full results yet
by saying full i mean.. the exact score i got for each of the 4 subjects
i sort of know wat's my highest and lowest score liao coz yday (Wed), my hons supervisor (yup.. he IS my supervisor next year) called me on my mobile phone to offer me the honours project in his lab. and that is my first choice of hons project :) and he roughly told me my higest and lowest score and my average faculty score.
but still.. i'm curious!! i want to know each of the scores for each of the subj!!
3 more days of my holiday...
and yup.. i'm still lazy to blog abt my kiwiland adventure :P
but i've uploaded 'selected photos' that i have from my camera to my msn space.
there're more from my bro's cam.. much nicer ones. haha!
i think those... need to wait till he pass me the CD ONE DAY lar... dunno when will that be >.<

Back from Kiwiland!
quite tired now actually... feel like sleeping tho it's only 10.18pm (NZ time 12.18am). I had to wake up at 3.20am this morning coz the flight is at abt 6.25am (yea.. around that time... u know lar.. i'm bad with numbers :P).
as soon as i stepped out of melb airport... wah... melb is so hot!!
today's weather is hot and stuffy. feel that melb air is dirty and hot... miss those clean cool fresh air in NZ. haha! ya.. NZ is cold! eventho it's summer there. it's like winter in melb! most places we went are even colder that i had to wear a Tshirt + a jumper (that i usually wear in autumn or spring) + my winter jacket!
will update my Day1 - Day11 'Kiwiland Adventure' here soon.. er.. mayb tmr? or day after? haha! hvn't upload all the pics into the comp yet.. except that pic of the little sheep soft toy that i bought from NZ. we (me and bro) bought 3... one for each of us (me and bro and another bro in KL) :). i think that's the only thing the 3 of us have exactly the same one, same size (except that we hv the same family, same relatives.. bla bla bla) haha.. hv to mention same size coz i remember that we hv a same Tshirt when we were small but diffr size of course. oh well, the 3 sheeps aren't EXACTLY the same... they hv diffr eyes, diffr hair... hehe
aih.. came back here.. so many things to do, hvn't been online for 10 days. many emails (incld junk of course) to clear (and few blogs to catch up haha!), need to reply to some of them :S (must think how to write properly one u know! esp those 'serious' ones.)
this afternoon, saw casio digital pianos on promotion in melb central. again... tempted to buy one. but... failed to convince my parents to let me buy. :( sienzzzz...
sigh... few more days (holidays) before my first day of work on monday for the summer studentship. wonder how will it be like :P which means i need to read all 3 pprs that my supervisor sent me months ago before monday. lazy lazy lazy.
went to pay $55 for hiring the academic gown for my graduation this afternoon. results will be out this fri (well, actually we can get the results on thurs evening lar) and then i'll know if i can graduate :P the lady at the office told me that there is NO AIR CON IN WILSON HALL!! wat der!!! imagine this hot summer melbourne day, 3.30pm, so many ppl in wilson hall (luckily the ceiling of wilson hall is high up.. so.. more air circulation hopefully. haha). so i think it's better to wear a short-sleeve shirt for the ceremony
tmr, mum's fren coming over
day after, dinner with frens
fri, dinner with dad's fren
left with sat and sun. :(
I WANT MY HOLIDAYSSSS!!

the 3 bad things i see in myself
u'll get irritated easily.. too easily. even by a small action (eg. forgot to switch off the light) done by other ppl.
and ur mood will be affected
then ppl around u will be wondering wat happened to u
Being too 'logical' is bad too!
u'll think and consider things from many different aspects and u'll make everything complicated.
Being too sensitive on what other ppl thinks about urself is bad too!
u'll worry abt the impression of u in other ppl's mind
and if u THINK things aren't right, u'll be very 烦 and keep thinking/tracking back wat had happened, keep 'analysing' wat might went wrong. bla bla bla...

wat der!!
kena ffk (means 'put aeroplane' by ppl) this morning!
i only had 3 hours sleep and had to wake up at 8am for the stupid orientation for my summer studentship. My orientation was suppose to be at 10am, but the letter says i have to be there at 9.30am to settle my paperwork. So i reach there at 9.25am sharp. the person who arranged my orientation (Beryl) told me to come back at 1.30pm because the lab manager (Michelle) who is suppose to brief me had arranged for my orientation at 1.30pm in her diary! and for 10am, i'm the only student, for 1.30pm, there's another student coming in as well. Beryl was very polite and said sorry a few times about that while for Michelle, not at all! i have the impression that she doesnt think it's her (or their) mistake and i have to come back in 3 and a half hours time for her convinience. she doesn't seem to have other important stuff to do and can't take me alone for orientation in the morning because she did say that it's better for me to join the other student together at 1.30pm. :S
so now, i'm in union house comp lab, filling up my honours application forms while on msn and now blogging.
sien... my grand plan for today was actually.... after orientation, go uni hand in my honours application form for genetics department (closing date is today) and the go home and sleep (instead of goin to Bridge Rd shopping with a fren)! but now... 'half day hanging', dont want to go home coz hv to come back soon so can't really sleep also. noone to kacau in uni...
sigh... think i might end up lepak-ing in the city until it's time to go to the orientation. >.<
and my lunch too! planned to go home eat my leftover pasta (since day before yday) but now...!!

Childhood memories
really thankful to my parents that they took so many photos of us when we were young. all the memories are in the photos. without the photos, i dont remember a thing!
i brought them over to melb becoz some of the photos we had at home started to 发霉! so i want to have a soft copy at least to keep... forever.
looking at those photos... only know that i was so cute when i was really small. :P
but after entering primary school, i dont look cute anymore lor. haha!
and looking at the photos of my grandparents made me a bit teary. and also found that my dad dont usually smile when taking photos. that was back then. now he has improvement :)
photos are really good as memory of things that had happened.
that's why i love taking pics, with and without ppl. we only have limited 'memory space'. can't remember every single thing, place or ppl.
digital camera is really a good invention! :P

exam finished. but...
yday after finish exam, wanted to msg ppl to say how relieved i was but think think... ppl are still hving exam so not really nice to msg them telling how happy you are :(
yday's ppr was tough! after i finished the paper, i was there calculating the scores whether i can pass the ppr. sad case... i dont usually sit there during exams, adding up the marks and stuff. and this time, really scared for not passing the subject!
then, went to city, bought bday card for my wai po. i love cards. i love looking through cards, choosing the best card for the person. and i saw this nice bday card and i just bought it coz it looks nice. :)
yday's weather was crazy, rain, hail, rain, stop, rain, stop...
my exam was at wilson hall, i was sitting at the 2nd row from the door. as ppl opened the door, can feel the cold wind from outside.
went to see myer window. the characters are quite cute but some of them are a bit 'cacat', needs to be fixed up.
was looking at the honours applications last night...
it's either i think too much or really i'm having a problem here.
especially after that last ppr, i dont hv much confident in getting the project i want. which is the one at mcri. i wanted to apply for 3 from pediatrics dep (MCRI), 1 from pathology dep (petermac) and 1 from genetics dep (petermac+genetics co-supervision). then looking at the blanks on the forms (we're allowed to put in more than 3 projects on one departmental application form). filling only one for patho and genetics is risky. means if i dont get that one means dont get at all from that department. so how if i can't get any from MCRI, not even 1 of the 3? how?! mcri is the hardest one to get in... highest required marks.
so i was a bit panick that time, read through other projects in genetics dep, found 2 quite inetersted ones. after all the hesitation, i emailed that supervisor to ask for appointment to ask him things abt his projects. but until now he din reply me :( it's either
he din check email (unlikely hor) or
he thinks this student is so last minute (closing date for genetics dep is on monday) so just ignore. :(
sigh... how how how?! should i just call his office tmr?
or just go: fine... i'll just apply only 1 project for that department. :S
sien...
and choosing between doin hons in uni vs research institutions outside uni is also an espect to think of.
and also need to consider how the supervisor is.. whether he's a considerate person or he's a 'make u work like hell' type of supervisor?
and also other ppl in the labs, whether they are nice ppl etc...
and whether the project is 'workable'. as in... whether will hv result at the end of the 10 months.
and also the coursework.
am i thinking too much? should i just pick the topic i'm interested in and think... i need to learn to deal with different kinds of ppl in the society and just give it a go?
and yup.. it's holiday for me now. which means i need to do some '亲善大使' work which is to call my uncle (who is in melb) and say hello, update him a bit etc...
aih....
i dont like to call him coz i dunno wat to say to him. adult world is complicated. sometimes some things shouldn't be said...
sometimes ppl back home will ask if i call him once in a while... but i'll think... why dont he call me? or his sons (my cousins) call me or even a hello at msn?!
even another uncle and aunty in melbourne, although we're not related (they're just frens of my other uncle), they'll email me sometimes to say hi and stuff, they even called me out for dinner when their son who is working in HK came to melb. they emailed me to let me know and say bye before they go to HK and Msia for holiday for 1 month. i was really touched when they treated me well although they dont really know me.
i'm really tired of 'acting' in front of them, every words need to go through my brain for a few times before said.
i hvn't been talking to my uncle for more than half a year liao. last year, and the years before i still call him once each semester, which is during uni holidays. so when uni holidays start, i'll be like... 'aih... need to call uncle liao'
mum and dad are flying off KL to sydney now. ya.. they're in KLIA now. and i dont think my uncle knows they're coming and our holiday plan to NZ and my summer studentship stuff too. i want him to know before my parents come, before we leave for NZ.
hmm...
wanted to call him last nite. but was watching 'smile pasta' until i remember, it was 12am already.
okok.. i'll call tmr... after mum and dad arrive in the morning, then at least i hv things to say like... 'my parents just arrived in syd this morning' (hope it wont be too surprising for him).

motivation! come back!!
this one last subj is hard... and the fact that it contributes 50% (not 55% as i mentioned before) to the sibj makes me lose motivation to study as hard as i did for other subj.
sien sien sien...
this year's exam question format will be different from the past. so dunno what type of questions to expect :(
AHHHHH!!!
2 more days before wed!!
scared!!

1 to go!!
cant wait for holidays to come!!
just got email from my aunt and she's inviting me and my bro to visit her in s'pore during christmas. hopefully bro wants to go then i can go too :D
wah.. .so many things to do during this coming holiday...
first thing is... fill up and hand in my honours application lar... so many forms to fill in coz i'm applying for a few departments. well, honours in science (yea.. too bad no honours in biomed) works like this... each departments have diffr projects, and we can submit application to as many departments as we want. then wait for their offer and accept the offer.
after that, enjoy holiday before my parents come. haha!
hopefully ppl out there after finish their exams still remember me har.. :D
then to NZ on 25th Nov.. oh ya... reminds me of doing research abt place to visit in NZ, plan the trip. can't leave that for my bro. he hasn't even book the car rental yet! that's his job as i've booked all the accomodation and get all flight tix settled.
then come back from NZ on the 5th, spend time with my parents for a few days... then start work lor... on 8th Dec.
then grad on 14th Dec. :D
oh .. before that... uni results will be out in early dec.
then go back to m'sia on 21st dec.
hope to go to s'pore during christmas (hmm .. but that means i wont be in kl for grace's bday :S)
then come back melb early jan, start work again.... till end of first week of feb.
then depends which honours project i get, either start honours straight away (5th Feb) or mid feb.
so that's my GRAND PLAN for my summer 'holiday'
okok... enough day-dreaming... study study...
need to clear my table first. ya.. during exams, i like to write notes on my table (which is white colour) with pencil of course. then i'll put away all the stuff for funcitonal genomics.
it's time for EVOLUTION!! yup... my next exam is on Genomes and Evolution. sounds very theory hor... ya... it is. quite interesting if you get it. but the thing is i still dont get it! :S
55% of the marks on this exam. dont think i'll get H1 for this subj d coz my assignments (45% of the subj marks) is not as good. :( anyway, fingers crossed! if i do well in the exam, there's still hope :D

How smart am I!! haha!!
http://www.crushcalculator.com/content/love/592887179
omg you guys have to try this....its real good....
so i went on to click that link and it brought me to this page, asking me to type in my name and the name(s) of my crush (can enter up to 3). I did not type in anything as i feel something fishy is going on. so i cut the front bit of the url and paste to a new window then press enter.
and... ta daa... BINGO! it IS a prank!! from a fren (of course i know who is he)
apparently it's a 'test' you can use on your friends or even your bf/gf (says on that website) to see if they are really true to you. u'll get to know what are the names they put in when you log into their 'members' page'. they'll notify you when ur frens are fooled. 'dooing' -_-
hmm...
went to uni for past year exam ppr discussion with some friends. then we went to Marks for lunch. ya... as usual, their survice is not as good but their tangy chicken supreme pizza is the best pizza! today we tried their dip and it's nice too!
ok, then i went to the city to do some grocery shopping. and so many ppl are on the street today! not just students, but older ppl and also mothers with their young kids... feels like today's a weekend or a public holiday! or is melbourne cup today? thought it's tmr? hm...

Another challenge before the other starts
yup.. that's one of the job for assistant production manmager
i dunno if i'm killing myself for applying and getting that position coz next yr i'm doin honours.
but haih... suan le lar... just take it and 拼 to the max lar!
and the fact that the other APM is fred and the PM is JingYing does motivate me up a bit, this combination seems 'workable' :) finger crossed!!

pressure is on!!
as some of you who read my previous blogs will know what happened in UROP. but why would i say that good result doesn't guarantee you a place in petermac summer studenship? coz for me, this time i got this studentship, a big part is coz of my luck. coz applicants are given (i dunno how they choose lar) to supervisors to be interviewed. and i'm luckiy enough to get interviewed by a supervisor who thinks i'm suitable for his project. coz like one of my frens, although her results is very good, she didn't get her project becoz there's someone else (also one of our frens) who is more suitable and experience in that particular aspect that the supervisor is looking for.
and now i'm looking for honours projects. one of the supervisors that i emailed to for making appointment to see him, actually replied my email by only asking me: 'if possible, can you pls send me your CV and academic transcript.'
and the other supervisor that i had made appointment to see him, well, i met him (and he still remembers me) from the honours open day. but he still asked me to send him my academic transcript before i went to see him. and today, another supervisor in MCRI, well this one's better haha. coz he still sees me and explains a lot to me and only ask for my academic transcript at the end of our meeting. :)
so far, i like the project that i just went to meet the supervisor at mcri. he is so nice lor... and according to his PhD student that i met there, his style of supervision sounds good to me. but still, options are open coz i'm seeing another 2 supervisors later this week.
pressure is on coz...
the fact that i only hv 2 papers and is well-spread out means i have no reason to not do well in the exams!!
and i really need to get good results to get the honours project i want.
dun want to screw up my effort in other semester and throughout this semester. well, there's nothing i can do for the other 2 subjects now coz the assesments are all done by now. 7 best 3rd year subj results are taken into consideration when applying honours. so, i need at least 3 good results this semester!!

End of ugrad
We had a 25% test yday and tht was the only 'class' i went yday coz i had skipped the earlier lec to do my assignments and some last minute revision for the test.
After finishing the test, before handing in the ppr, our core subj coordinator who was there to conduct the exam gave a few words abt us finishing our 3 yrs course. i was so touched lor... trying hard to hold back the tears. then after we left the lec theatre, saw other ppl taking pics. well, i had taken some pics with some of my biomed frens before the test started. then had to rush to the library (1st floor comp lab in bailieu) to finish up my assignment which is due 2 hours later.
I never used that comp lab before in my entire uni life before last week! haha! should have found that place earlier!
this week had been my crazy week... presentation, assignment, project report and test. my biological clock had been working up-side-down. had been sleeping at 4 or 5 in the morning for few days this week. well, last week of uni... work as hard as i can lor (not that i wont do that if it's not the final week of uni).
after handing in the assignment and report, went to meet up with my biomed frens at maxbrenner.
at nite... k-box time!! muahaha!!
we started at 10 something. just me and SW, haha! so syok!
then later on SY came, then Elaine, then LeeYen (with her sister-LeePop), then SamSam. we had 1 special guest and 1 'guest singer' - Alice and Alfred :P.
we sang till 4 something in the morning. thnx to a fren who works there, gave us some really good deal!! unlimited drinks!! how nice of him!!
after k, we went to Doncaster Pancake Parlour that opens 24 hours. we reach there at 5am, had breakfast there!
ya.. my first time there. nice place, nice food, nice frens to chat with.
when i was back at home, it's already almost 7 i think.
wat a happening day. :)
so in holiday mood!!
today woke up at 1 something in the afternoon. went to this Fiesta M'sia at City Square. It's an event for Deepavali and Hari Raya. food stalls, performances and games stalls. when we went there, there was nothin much left. it's almost the end of the event already.
then lepak-lepak in the city to buy fren's bday pressie.
how nice if we had finished our exams!! BUT if we really had finished our exams, most ppl would be either going home or went somewhere else for holiday lar.
oh ya... not to forget mentioning abt this...
my graduation date!! 14th Dec 3.30pm! muahaha!!
that's the date i wanted coz my parents are flying home on the 16th and they couldn't get their flights postponed coz it's all fully-booked.
so now it's all good. :)

5 days left
dunno how should i do to leave no regrets.
that day, first time ever i went to the comp lab in first floor bailieu lib to book a comp for the discussion of our functional genomics presentation group. feel so 'sua ku' when i failed to scan my own student card. haha!
thought of having lunch in union house every single day coz i think i'll miss having lunch in union hs. but... noone to eat with :( next week ctg have no table during lunch time liao...

PPS
在看完朋友的blog, 再想到今天在学校和朋友提起说她年底毕业后就不要留在澳洲了,眼泪不知不觉地就掉了下来。
再过一个多星期,就是学期结束了。
就不会再像以前那样和coursemates 一起上课,去做 prac, 去library;

Alice remind me 的)!这个production 是让我最能感觉到我是part of the big family 的。not that 以前的没有,but 这次认识的人比较多,可以说是几乎每一个人,从admin 到 production team 到 casts 都认识了。
well, 现在又是时候回到assignments, tests and presentation 了。
接下来的两个星期又要拼了!
17th Oct Functional Genomics test (5%)
20th Functional Genomics presentation (10%)
24th Experimental genetics project presentation
27th Experimental genetics project report (altogether 40%)
Genes to Phenotype exam (25%)
G & Evolution assignment (10%)

FINAL SHOW of mousetrap
i fixed up the internet connection just now by trial-and-error. and it works!!
well, after the tpg technical support ppl told me the correct 'incapsulation' although he couldn't help me do the configuration, i try try then mana tahu it works!
well, today... our FINAL SHOW!!
oh no!! that means after today, we'll be back to our study-unilife.
was reading some of the comment that other production/admin ppl wrote for me in my booklet. well, in case you dont know, each production will have a production booklet, which is the same as those for the audience. but we in the production or admin team will pass around our own booklet to write some short msg or comment on each other's booklet.
and it's always funny ones and touching ones written in the booklets. really enjoy reading those when i get my booklet back at the end of the day. and reading back those comments after some time or even years will be a really enjoyable thing to do.
i'm now thinking whether i should join the cantonese production which is in april next year. not sure if i'm ablt to juggle my time between honours and the production.
it's like.. i'll miss the fun of these productions but i really want to do well in my honours. no play play man!!
and this morning, i moved the only pot of plant i have from the balcony to the living room. why??
because the pigeons are back again!!
they came here to 'check out' the place for a few times already and they also started to shift some twigs and plastic 'twigs' into the pot. so i better move the pot away before they lay their eggs there! i dont want to have the mess they left me last year again!

东方神起
i'm not to the extent that i'm obsessed with them yet haha!
i know them last year but couldn't find their songs...
then as i was watching this korean entertainment show called X-man, they were in the show so it reminded me of their songs. yea.. went to search and manage to find quite a few.
i like their slow songs, too bad i dont understand a single word. they do have some of the songs in chinese version, and jap songs too. hope i wont get sick of them lar coz korean songs all sound quite similar to me. but i can still tell their songs apart lar, like i can tell they are different songs. haha!
i have been sitting infront of the comp searching through the net abt them since... 2something? haha!
woke up at 1pm today.. had the most sleep today! :)
was so tired for the past few days...
our first 2 shows are succesful. so far so good :)
although something hit us for the past few days, we managed to fix them up.
really wierd and was pissed that one of the props went missing the day before our first show!! how can that be except someone did it on purpose?! coz that thing is not worth any money so wat's the reason of it got stolen other than a prank?!!!
anyway, alvar and meiqi had it done over again. thanks!!
one week left and we'll be back to our study study life again :(
hope everything goes smooth for the following week and hope everyone is enjoying the whole process!!

可能我expect too much from 这班朋友,失望了。越来越觉得和他们在一起时,很left-out。他们开心enjoy,我并没有他们那样开心。罢... sien...

very sien with this fren coz everytime i call her, 9 out of the 10 times, can't get her. it's either she's sleeping (ya.. even 10pm she is sleeping), or she's busy or she didn't hear the phone ring. ><
very 无奈 arrr!!
today is wednesday liao... i seriously know i have so much work to do and i really need to speed up my pace liao!!
okok.. my target for tonite is... finish Belinda's lectures!! muahaha... doubt that i can make it but i'll try my best... coz i'm a bit sleepy liao now... hmm... mayb i should eat some fruits to keep me awake :D

stressful mid-sem break
as i thought of how much work i need to do, uni work, ctg work, personal stuff... so much to do! and i'm so reluctant to do any of them!! i'm just tired to go through all these. >.<
2 weeks mid-sem break just started.
i have been looking fwd to this break since few weeks ago when all my assignments and tests piled up on me. but now, i'm not happy to hv this break.
how un-malaysian am I?
Congratulations Sze Chern, you are 40% not Malaysian.
That means you're as Malaysian as...
Michelle Yeoh!

Whee!! :D
Got offered the summer student scholarship from PeterMac on monday.
was soooo excited when i checked the email at 8pm. and immediately picked up the phone and called my best fren. well, i know i should be calling my parents first. but... haha.. i called them at almost 12.
and i had accepted the offer that night after getting the email for abt 5 hours
then started to realise this potential clash of the summer work with my 'potential' honours project. coz the honours at MCRI (the murdoch children research institute at royal children's hosp) starts in 5th Feb. and i really like some of the projects there. so, after being worried about that and after discussing with a lecturer/my referee and another lecturer, and then i came up with the solution! :)
that is, work for 2 weeks in dec, which means go back m'sia later lor... then come back in early jan to continue. that will be able to let me clear the 6 weeks work by feb. hopefully get some break before starting the honours.
and this morning, got email from the supervisor and he's ok with that. so, everything's good now :D
i woke up at 8.17am this morning and missed my 8am lecture >.<
mayb i didn't set my alarm clocks (ya.. i hv 2 alarms, one radio alarm and one on my handphone) or i woke up and turn them off (but i dont remember me doin that wor)?!
tonite goin to a fren's 21st, yday nite a fren's bday too...
thurs go rehersal, friday ball!!
yay!! this week is so fun :D
after the stressfull 3 previous weeks, i can finally play play and play until term break starts, i hv to do assignments, and study for test and keep up with my lectures again. :(
well, so, let me enjoy first lar!! :D
gtg... go ball shopping with fren now...
Sunday, September 10, 2006
Phew...
now looking fwd to holiday! ooh.. and the M'sian ball on friday :)
oh ya... din update abt the petermac application... i got into the interview. and it was on wed. well, i was quite nervous abt it. and just after the interview, i can't tahan myself and called yf to tell her all abt the interview! haha!! will know the result early next week lar... he said if i din hear from him this week, email him wor.. will do it tmr lar. fingers crossed!!
after the interview on tues, went home to prepare my presentation which was on thurs.
and i took me till the next morning, 5am only i went to sleep. i hand-written all my 5 slides but have another 4 with the figures had to photocopy onto it. then woke up at 9am to go uni photocopy my OHP slides.
i think i'm a bit kelam-kabut during the presentation, missed a few points i realised after the presentation. and luckily one of the lecturer, who always ask difficult questions didn't ask me anything haha!! mayb coz my paper was quite simple, nothing to critise abt? 3 ppl presented that day, i was the last one for the day and for the whole class too coz that's the last day of the series of presentation. 29 ppl in the subject, each person do 1 paper.
few things i'm 'proud' abt my presentation is...
i'm the only one who edited (with OHP marker pen) the figures from the paper. those figures are like graphs, or gel photos, or any results that the ppl had done and published together with the paper.
and i did a small demonstration abt this 'supercoiling theory' with my mp3 player's earphone wires. :) and a girl in the class said 'cool' when she saw the demo. :D
well, i heard her said that before to another person when he has this clever idea of the way he uses his slides.
and after the class ended, the lecturer who is the subject coordinator came to me to ask where i got some of my points i presented from. coz he can't find them on the paper. haha... of course lar... coz it's not from the paper. it's some extra research i did :) coz nowadays when u look for a scientific paper from the internet, some of them will have links saying which other papers had referred to this particular paper. so there's where i got the extra stuff from. they are like the more latest info abt that topic coz the papaer i presented was published in 2002.
and then he also said to me and another fren who also presented that day, that we did a very good job :)
after that, went home for awhile then went to royal children's hosp for the honours open day in murdoch children research institute. love the atmosphere, like the ppl there, like their projects too!!
but i have to enrol my hons trhough the dep of pediatrics in uni. dunno if there's any difference coz i always wanted to do hons in genetics. but then the projects there that i'm interseted in are still genetics stuff wat. hmm...
and the hons in mcri starts in early feb next yr. which means IF i got petermac scholarship, i won't be able to work full 6 weeks wor. dunno hv prob or not leh?
anyway, see how lar... better not be too confident yet. things wont always turn out to be wat we want it to be. and there's another open day for genetics dep in uni on tues. the hons in the dep starts mid feb. well, there are pros and cons to do hons in uni and in outside (other research institutions). so... see how it goes...
so after the open day, went home... do assignment, friday due.
and that took me till the next morning 10am baru can sleep. >.<
slept till 12.15pm, that's luckily yeefei sms me abt hving lunch together with another fren too!! if not, i'll sleep until miss the 1pm lec.
after lec, went to hand in my assignment. well, i think i din do well for that assignment too. seems like i'm really not an assignment person. i'm more of a test/exam person. hmm... now only i know!! in my final semester!! -_-|||
a fren's 21st party at nite...
then after that, went home, straight into my bed after my shower at 12am.
slept till this afternoon 12.30pm. ahh... so nice!!
and i finally have a weekend where i can really enjoy, have a break from the uni days. :)
next week, 1 prac assignment to hand in on monday and that's it for the week! :D
yay!! v^-^V
tmr our first full run. quite nervous abt it actually. coz the casts never practice with props before. and tmr will be the first time we'll use it. so actually i should check through all the props tonite since most of the stuff are with me now. but i'm so sleepy liao.. *yawn*
ok lar, i'll go check check first... dun want anything wrong to happen tmr :)

Why?!
does it always have to go through many 'tests' to tell them apart?!
just tired of guessing and be sceptical all the time. and feel 'cheated' at some time when i THINK the person is not being honest to me.
it's all about guessing and how good ur 'analyzing skills' are! >.<
i know that i can just stay away from them, and be hi-bye frens but i dont want that to happen coz all my analysis can be wrong! but i dont hv the gut to walk up to them and ask them on their face.
dont know why it turned out like this. or it's just me thinking too much?
but everything seems so obvious! and i think i shouldn't let myself trust the person at the first place. too late now...
Human beings are so complicated!!

FON
While i was walking, i kept thinking and 'analysing' what had happened today so far.
well, today after class, went to volunteer for the Festival of Nations. felt so sorry for a fren coz i din take care of his chocolate properly. i know that's just a chocolate.. but... :(
then cabut at 330, went to help a fren with the preparation of her little performance :D
then went to fotoholics IGM at 5.15pm
i did a bad job as a returning officer (to conduct the election) for the IGM. after the meeting, i so want to find a hole to hide my face!!! >.<
i think i made the IGM so dodgy and inorganized. Feel so bad for that. :(
i think i'm having too many mood swings.
as in i feel bad easily, i feel down quite easily too.
no good right? hmm..
mayb i should be more forgetful? haha!

>Crazy week 5<
this week is a crazy week for me!!
it started on monday... had the genomes and evolution 'exam' (it's worth 20%!) which i only studied the day before. sad to did that sort of thing... that is so not me! before that, i started studying for all my tests or exams at least few days before the day. but this time.. sigh... anyway, can't blame anyone for that except myself...
then tuesday, annoyed by a friend... i know i shouldn't say she's annoying... but.. is this friend i knew from a subj last sem. although we are in the same course, i din know her until last sem. this sem, we have 3 common subjects. the annoying part is... well, i dont like her 'following' me around in between classes. even walking with her to another lecture when we have the same lectures continuously. i admit that i might not feel that way if it's not her. today is not the first time she hang around with me between classes. i know i shouldn't feel that way coz she did nothing wrong! and she is a nice person in the sense that she doesn't mind sharing things she know with u, and she taught me quite a lot lsat sem on one of my subjects. it's like.. i just dont have a good reason to dont like her. >.< i felt bad for myself. it's one of the 'bad thinking' that i hv... i'll be irritated/annoyed by some ppl just because the way they act, or the way they talk! and i have no other reason to not like them! the worse part is.. they're nice person, they're nice to me, but i just dont like them becoz of their 'style', their personality! and i shouldn't be like that coz i can't expect everyone in this world to act/talk like me, right?! sigh...
then at nite, went to the Genetics department dinner. it was at the University House in uni. It's a semi-formal dinner, where 306 and 304 students are invited, and also the lecturers, postgrad and honours students from the department. That was my first time going to this kind of 'serious' dinner. haha! well, good to experience though... had to say that most of the time i was listening instead of joining in the chat with other ppl on my table (as what i usually do even when goin out with a bunch of frens), mayb coz frequency not too similar? we were chatting abt some 'science-related stuff' and of course other casual stuff too. and the dinner started at 730pm, but when i got home, it was abt 1130 already..
wednesday... went to the open day at PeterMac at 5pm. before that, i quite like the place so was very looking fwd to the openday. well, not many ppl went though... only.. around 20 students? (well, they'll hv another open day in Sep) conclusion is.. the ppl there are more friendly that those at WEHI. (oops.. dont think any ppl from WEHI will be reading this... anyway, no offence!!) and the projects there interest me more than those at WEHI. then, reach home almost 730. then tried hard to stay concentrate on doing those after-lecture-notes for the exam on friday. but had to go to bed early coz can't concentrate at all... too tired..
Thurs morning... woke up early at 8am to continue last nite's work. went to uni for 11am class. met our supervisor of the project on experimental genetics. and we were given an assignment which comprise 25% marks of the project, due on 8th sep. :( yup, it's a project... mentioning abt that... i'm quite pissed when the fren i mentioned earlier abt tuesday... we were at the library during the break between lecs. i was doing my assignment for my bioinfo project. it's a group work and i'm meeting my group mate later that day so had to do my part of the work. so she asked me what was i doin... and i said that's the assignment for my bioinfo project. and u know wat, her reaction was like: 'u have a project?!' i'm like... why can't i have one?!!! many ppl have one this sem! super 'bu shuang' man!! i'm sensitive to the words 'project' and 'urop' these days coz ... aih... another long story...
at the mid of my second year, me and a few frens were applying for urop, which is like a research work for undergrad students. u get to work in a research lab and get paid for it. well, i dint get in, even for the interview. another fren, whose results are far far better than us also din get in for the interview. both of us were disappointed... until now, i'm still disappointed and still dunno why both of us got rejected. i know that results do not mean everything. but how can they just reject her based on that application letter and her brilliant results?! that is just not fair. i mentioned abt that to a lecturer last week and he said that... sometimes that's called networking... but but.. that's just not fair! we were still 2nd year, wat kind of networking u expect from us?! and then this year, 2 of our frens got the job. of course, congrats to them!! but i felt a bit down and really left out when they were talking abt the stuff they're doin in urop. and also with another fren who also has a project on for one of her subjects. whenever the 3 of them are talking abt their research stuff... i so want to run away. again, i know that there's no reason for them to avoid talking abt those stuff in front of me. and i shouldn't act that way. but i felt the gap between us... i feel that we are getting farther apart nowadays... :( it's our final semester together in uni now... and i really dun want to lose this group of frens. but ever since this sem, when 2 of them came back from exchange, i felt left out now... last 2 years, we (not just the 3 frens i mentioned, but more of the 1 of them plus another 2) were together most of them time in uni, having so much common topics to talk abt.
i think this happens coz i hv another new circle of frens in uni and they dont overlap with them in my course. and i dunno how to balance between them. so i tend to neglect them. :(
thurs nite... went for the open day at StVincent's. really like some of their projects. and the ppl there seems quite nice too.. will find out more after i clear most of my tests and assignemts. then, went for Sarah's graduation. yup... the last graduation i'm attending before my batch's coming up this dac. ahhh!!! time flies!!! then went home.. study like mad for today's exam (25% arr!!) scared and so worried abt the exam!
this morning, woke up at 8am, study study.. skip the 10am lec. yup.. this is my first time skipping my lecture 'consciously' haha! the exam is at 1pm, and i only hv that 10am lecture before that. so... yea... and i think it is absolutely worth it to skip it. :D
now... looking at the assignment on my desk... due on monday.. 500 words report for the bioinfo project.. yes! it's a PROJECT!!! and it says so on our sheet! >.<
sien... just now after class, i so dont feel like coming home.. coz need to do work when i come back. but anyway, need to do it lar...
i'm sure next week will be another crazy week for me...
helping out with festival of nation, Sam's 21st, oh.. and still thinking if i should apply for a summer work at Murdoch, closing on 1st Sep., then the following week will hv 1 test, 2 assignments and a presentation in that same week!! >.< die die lar... never been this busy in my entire uni life!!
talking abt summer work.. another disappointment from PeterMac summer scholarship :( it says we will be notified this week if are short-listed for the interview... sigh...

Yes i'm busy >.<
25th Aug - Genes to Pheno exam 25%
28th Aug - Exp genetics bioinfo assignment 500words 10%
4th Sep - Functional Genomics test 5% + Genes and Evol assignment 750words 10%
7th Sep - Exp genetics presentation (individual 20 mins) 10%
That's what i'm busy for up till mid-sem break >.<
really scared abt the coming tests and assignments!!
sigh... this sem is my busiest semester
October will be worse
altogether will have 4 assignments/reports due + 2 exams + 1 test + CTG production!!

Week 3
Time flies!! haha
handed in my 1st assignment for this sem today. So now i have no reason to not study and follow up the lectures now. :( haha!!
and a 20% and a 25% tests are coming up soon! so better study liao.
well, hope i can study hard durin weekdays and then can relax more in weekends.
well, so far there are 2 surprise bday for my 2 frens for the past 2 weeks, anymore coming?
well, i dont mind planning surprise for ppl's bday. it can be fun and 'satisfying' when the person is really surprised. :D

CTG CAMP 2006
Sam, Muk (2006). CTG camp 2006. Busy Busy Me!: July 06.
CTG CAMP 2006
one and half week of intensive preparation for the camp, which contains arguements, disagreement, unhappie-ness, sleepless, brain death.....it is all over, it is all worth back!!!all these arguements, disagreements make us understand each others better....
everyone seemed to enjoy the camp......n as the camp committee, that is really what we want to hear...

at first, we did worry about whether the campers will find these games interesting or not, if they dun wan to play then how?? but it's proven that we think too much!!! although there were 2 or 3 ppl who do not want to play certain game, but from this, it makes everyone realised something......putting in effort does not means those will be recognised by all. but i know, some really do realised! thx for those ppl.... Matt matt, u gave a really good speech!!!!
been lacked of sleep pre-camp n during the camp.....first day of camp only slept an hour (erm... well, i slept for almost 3 hours)....playing Killer in the cold morning after all planned activities end, when most of the campers slept...we r crazy ppl...but dun play that time, play when??!!!
then the second day, i was really really tired.....though i so want to play...end up sleping at 3am n woke up at 8am.....
DAY 1- 21 JUL 06 highlights
1. ice breaking game- it was quite messy due to someone not coming to camp , n some juz join the camp....make our pre-prepare name list become messy....newspapers game was ok.......their team name n slogan r funny...
* Triple C * Tempura, Sushi, Sashimi * Whatever is Whatever * We r f^cking bananas *
(and station games!! --> there were 6 stations: spider web, 'crossing the river', hoola hoop, card standing, cans and pens, 8 ppl 7 legs)
2. Da Vinci Code --> treasure hunt.....guess most of them found it difficult...mainly because they dun really know the camp well n it was so dark at night..... (and i'm the devil who always lead u to the wrong direction when they came to ask me question)
* clue of " Only drivers care" leads them to car park instead of the slow down sign near the entrance of the campsite.
* "Pig run before king kong" make them headache...dunno where izzit....it meant Ping Pong= table tennis (2 teams asked me abt this one... and i made them think it's something to do with food... sorry guys... >.<)
* "Behind the scene" cause the most trouble..cause it should be behind the recreation room. It was my mistake, put the next clue inside the recreation room...but then dunno who, not the comittee members, put it outside the recreation room..make few groups cannot find it...
* "Kitty's bed" should be the easiest one....which is in my room, under my hello kitty pillow, i purposely bring my kitty pillow so that they can find it. But still, got teams go to look under my car...Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
* "Fishnet on the ring", which is the basketball court...still many ppl missed it...
* "Tweety house"- the bird house, many ppl not even know there is this bird house.
3. Suprisingly, our photo taking game was fun n the campers luv it!!! make our efforts of preparation for this game worth back -- 3 hrs of photo taking (at my place and with the help of my 2 frens and 1 former CTG ppl. thanx guys!!), which need to think of the pose for different level ....the "makeup" flour......make us do the cleanning like hell... (good that many ppl helped lar)
(for photos, pls refer to Sam's blog :D)
DAY 2- 22 JUL 06 highlights
1. Play ground + water bomb game--it was quite a mess for these games at first. cause a few of the campers refused to play it as they said they dun wan to get wet. Because of this, it make all of the committee members realised that putting in effort does not means those will be recognised by all. But as i said before, i know there r lots of them who recognised it!!!n Matt Matt, i have to say that......u gave a really good speech!!! We, the committee members were quite unhappy that time...hence, the instruction given for the playground game was unclear....but then the water bomb game afterward was great!!without those who refused to play!!!!
3 teams were required to stand together on a square wood, then me n Sze Chern take turn to ask questions. then they need to be the fastest to shout out their team slogan to get the chance to asnwer. If answer correct, the other 2 teams will be poured water by other 4 committee members. If answer incorrect, they will be poured water. At the last question, all the committee members chose to stand in front of any teams. They get wet, we get wet as well!!!!Fair right??!! Here is the video that the camper (Eric) put on YouTube!!
Water bombs in the camp
(aiks... ya.. i admit that i ran down in that first round.. but the 2nd round, i din... so erm... hehe)
c matt matt already get so wet for the first turn...as all the "pourers" poured at him although the team answered correctly.
2. X-men --> they were given scripts that were pre-written by us. They need to act according to the scripts. There were 4 different scenes(mission) to complete. If they failed, they need to restart again from the first mission although they already completed that mission before. They seem to enjoy it as well!!!
one of the mission- adapted from "Journey to the West"
Journey to the West
3. Wasabi Acting game-- the last game for the camp....Each team r required to eat something in front of everyone n act as they like so that other teams cannot guess who had eat the "nice" food.
* 9 vegemitte breads Vs 1 nutella bread
* 9 wasabi sushi Vs 1 non-wasabi sushi
* 9 lemon juice Vs 1 water
* 9 2tsp of coffee powder Vs 1 2tsp of milo
* 9 vinegar Vs 1 water
6 of us also acting by eating vegemitte breads n JP ate the nutella breads. omg!!vegemite suck!!!!!!dunno who will like to eat it!!!when i smell also wan to vomit.....dun say eat.... (erm well, i'm quite ok with it mayb coz i used to had marmite with porridge or soup when i was really young)
That the offical activities for Day 2....after that...most campers do their own stuffs, play around..while 6 poor committees got to wash all the dishes used for the acting game...omg...at least 200 glasses lor...luckily have dishwasher....
DAY 3- 23 JUL 06 highlights
last morning of the camp.....least ppl having breakfast...everyone rather sleep than eat....after packing up n cleaning around the campsite..we had our prize giving n group photo taking session before heading back to city.

New semester
had a 9am lec just now, 1 hr break now. no where to go, dunno what to do, so here i am in the comp lab in union house.
18 contact hours for me this sem, my timetable was quite nice... except a 4 hours break on tuesday before my prac which ends at 6pm :S
came back from CTG camp yday around 4pm and went to bed at 5pm till this morning 7am.
with my eyes half closed, brain not functioning in full mode, got 2 sms (thnx, so sweet of you 2) and a phonecall from my mum. can't really recall what i said to my mum now. haha!
It was tiring but definitely a fun camp!! the 'after camp feeling' of being in the camp comittee is really different from a camp participant. felt relieved that everthing went fine this time. and glad that everyone (at least most ppl lar) enjoyed the camp.
during this 3 days 2 nights camp, i only slept for not more than 8 hours. and i;m sure most of us did, well especially those who were at the ground floor. :P
sigh.. now.. back to uni days again...
will work hard and play hard this final sem!!
and cherish every moment while being a undergrad :)
alright, time for my 2nd lec... ciao!

I want more holidays!!
final week of uni holidays la!!
few more days left :(
many things yet to be done
now that uni starts next monday, that reminds me that i hvn't choose/change my subject, hvn't check timetable :(
these few days since i came back from syd, sleeping time is abnormal.
slept for 4 hours per day, or even 14 hours per day.
ok, till here now... not in good mood tonite...

back in melb
crazy! 5 dozens of krispy kreme!! won't want to do that again!
everyone's watching, from syd all the way home! >.<
'wow! how many u got there?!' said the air stewardess.
'ur 1 week supply of doughnuts!' said a skybus passenger.
'i'm sure u like doughnuts!' said the building manager.
miserable weather in melb.. cold, raining. it started raining when i was about to get home. sigh... syd is so sunny!
ok... cont update abt my syd trip...
sat: fish market, uni of syd, disney on ice
conclusion of the day: will be back for sashimi, will love melb uni more, disney is not just for kids :) i luv it too!
sun: opera house, the rocks, chinatown, DFO, dinner at JuJu (a jap restaurant
conclusion of the day: opera hs market is not so worth going, weekend at the rocks is always good with the market although they're abt the same since few years back, breadstory is not bad, 2 tops for me + looking fwd to DFO at spencer st (melb), good food good friends.
mon: Lindt at Martin Pl, Pancake on the rocks
conclusion of the day: will be back again for hot choc (dark choc)!!, and pork ribs and of course pancakes!!
tues (today lor): Kingsford airport, Tullamarine airport
thought won't hv enough time to get the 'nuts', was panic when couldn't find the krispy kreme stall at first. then was wondering if 5 dozen is too much for the cabin overhead locker. haha! but yea... they fit in just nice :)
i was hoping that more ppl will put their bags next to the 'nuts' so that they will 'sit still' in the overhead locker. ended up the 'nuts' shared the space with 2 other small bags and i had 3 seats in a row by myself.
phew... next time (if there is), 3 dozen is the max i'll carry! haha!
and i found 3 'cool things' abt syd train (the train itself, train station). i might sound a bit 'sua ku' but.. haha:
1. this thingy where train passengers hold on to it. it's cool coz it's not connected all the way to the bottom

2. the ads and news projected on the wall
3. the seats in the new train which u can change the back of the seats for train going in either direction. coz trains go back the other way after they reach the end station, so if the seats are fixed for one way, ppl will be sitting facing backwards when the train goes the other way. so those seats in the new trains, ppl can just change the 'direction' of the seats so that you can seat 1 of the 2 'directions' u prefer. sounds complicated? :P

~Sydney~
had korean hotpot as dinner near capitol (not recommended)
then went home (where my bro lives)
woke up at 9 something am, vacuum clean part of the house, with the oldest vacuum cleaner i've ever used!
took a ferry to circular quay, then train, to Central
met up with Ant and his friends.
lunch then karaoke!
6.15pm met up with bro at Chatswood. there's a small night market with one of the stalls selling octopus balls. then to Chatswood Westfield. target: houseware :S
came home, requested for results. waited from 10pm till 1.15am, gave up... sleep.
this morning, finally got my results!
if i'm not mistaken, this is my first time getting my results on 'the day' through SIS itself. i usually request for the results the day before and i'll get it through uni email the night before 'the day'.

whee!!
thought of staying at home spending my time reading (not text books of course!) in my bed whole day yday.
but i ended up went to uni and practise my piano! :D hvn't been touching the keys since beginnig of this yr in kl, and hvn't been playing the pieces i played for my exam ever since i finished the piano exam before i came to trinity! so happy to 'have half of them back', as in... i can't play as smoothly as i did. anyway, it's good to find out that i can always go uni to practise during this holiday!! :D
then, went to watch DaVinci Code in the afternoon.
yup... i went alone... first time ever to go to the cinema alone... not a bad experience but i won't want to do that again. haha! coz i hv noone to grab or lean on when it comes to those 'exciting' parts. haha!
there were only 10 ppl in total in that cinema!
the movie... well... still dont quite understand some of the parts although i'd read the book. and the movie is a bit different from the book. but overall the film was ok-good lor... as in... the whole story happened in a very short period of time... in 1 or 2 days i think... so it's quite rush.
then after dinner, went sing k! :D
then went to fed sq for the WC... aus vs italy.
i'm not a soccer person, but still, the match was very 'gan jeong'! especially towards the end.
okie, better go sleep now... *yawn* *yawn*

~holidays~
so relieved!!
yday after the ppr, straight out from the exam hall... felt so so so happy! not because i did well for that ppr, but just happy!
met up with Grace who went back last night after the ppr, both of us were too happy and kept on laughing until we got on the tram. haha!
i dont remember when was the last time i went home straight after exam. haha!
after the steamboat dinner, which i actually left earlier than some of them coz of the discomfort in my stomach, while waiting for the tram, saw so many shops on sale now!! whee!! want to get myself a wallet this holiday. been 'hunting' for one since 1 month ago... hvn't found one that i really like. ya.. i'm being picky. i think that's good to be picky, so that u won't simply buy things that u'll regret. erm.. well, i did bought things that made me regret of buying lar. haha!
oh and.. talking abt stomach-ache... the chinese medicine i got here is the best!! (ask me for more details if u need it... of course i hope that u don't!) super effective! sigh... this semester.. felt sorry for my poor stomach.. so this holiday must treat it well. :D
last night... felt so happy and senang when i went to bed.
during the exam time or uni days, before go to sleep, sure hv things to worry, things to think, things to plan... but last nite... woa... nothing to worry abt.. just 'zzz' is the signal sent through my mind. haha! so happy!
真是无‘试’一身轻! :D
hmm... need to plan wat to do during this hol...
watch drama series, movie (including the long 'tahan-ed' DaVinci code),
wash my bag, clean the apartment (although not goin to SUPER spring clean it),
sort out and scan in our childhood photos,
find out abt where to visit in Syd (other than the syd city!) and NZ (still need some research before deciding to go or not),
get myself a wallet,
hang out with some frens (hopefully),
plan wat subject to take next sem ><,
erm... wat else?!
oh.. and watch soccer! not every match, but at least a few. although i'm not a soccer fan, but how can i not join in the 'fun' during this WC leh?! hvn't watched a single match yet since the WC started.
to everyone having holidays: have a good break!! enjoy urself!
Friday, June 23, 2006
AHHHH
it's worth 50% of the subj's marks for this sem. it's a prac subj
might sound easy huh... but i'm not goin to let them slip through this time
all the questions are like problem solving type... so even there's not much materials to go through (1 lecture + a 3 hour prac per week), it can be tough too.
okok... better get going now... last minute glance through, shower, lunch, go!
Tuesday, June 20, 2006
2 more to go...
and it's tuesday today, which means my paper will be on the day after tmr and last ppr on the following day!!!
feel excited about goin to end sem 1 exam so soon but also worried abt the last 2 pprs. :S
after my 2nd ppr, which was last tuesday, i've already lost half of the motivation to keep up my study mood. but after yday's study group, my study mood came back again. hope it'll stay with me till friday!!
wish me luck!!

What do you think?
The only question that make me think about my answer is whether that person is 'worth helping'. as in, If that person had worked hard enough but still don't understand the material, i'm very happy to lend it to him/her.
But if that person wants to borrow because he/she always skip lectures without good reasons (anyway, what good reason will that be for a STUDENT to skip classes?), i will say no.
I might sound very selfish but honestly, that's what i think.
so if a person came to u 6 days before the final exam for that subject, asking you for your notes,
should i say that he/she just don't bother to catch up when he/she was left behind weeks (or even months?) before that day?
or should i think that he/she simply need your help on some of the stuff that is bothering him/her?
Pls correct me if my attitude is wrong
and PLS don't say that i refused to lend my notes becoz i don't want you to do better than me!! that really hurts!!

没有粽子的端午节
well, after the extra tute today (10am till 4pm staight), went down to city to look for 粽子. thinking that after having biscuits for lunch during the tute, can have a nice 粽子for dinner, but couldn't get the one with pork that i want! all left was the sweet one. :(
so that's today... 没有粽子的端午节 (the rice dumpling festival without rice dumplings)
